Just this side of heaven is a place called the Rainbow Bridge. When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of the special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.
All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigour, those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing - they each miss someone very special to them who had to be left behind. They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His or her eyes are intent; the eager body quivers. Suddenly he or she begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, legs going faster and faster.
You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous renunion never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart
Then you cross the Rainbow Bridge together...
Please feel free to send us a picture and a few words about your dog, so we can add it to this page to let others know about your faithful friend.
Rosie - Dec 2011 Rosie had a hard start in life and was born with hydrocephalus. She had slight brain damage and was special to us, we loved her quirky ways. She became unwell a number of months ago and it turned out she had liver damage. Missed by Maggie, and all at the sanctuary
Lilly - Dec 2011 Lilly was only with us a short while but we all loved her and her sweet ways. She had a tumour that was inoperable and passed away peacefully. Missed by all at the sanctuary

Sadie - Sept 2011 Sadie came into us as an elderly dog so we didn't have much time with her. She often used her age to get what she wanted by making us feel sorry for her so got a place in the house! She had been failing the last couple of months and is now well and healthy in Rainbow Bridge. Run free, from all at the sanctuary

Trixie - August 2011 Trixie had been in the sanctuary for many years and was our resident bull breed ambassador. She was diagnosed with cancer this year but despite it she was always in great form.
Trixie is missed by everyone at the sanctuary. xxx

Bobby - 20th May 2011 Theres so many words which could describe our Bobby; loyal, lazy, cheeky, spoiled and a big teddy bear are just a few, but most importantly he was our best friend and was a true member of the family, he came into the world fighting and went out fighting, through thick and thin he never gave up or gave us a dull moment. He was our Bobby. Missed by all the family. xxx

Rex - 12th March Rex had an unexpected heart attack during the night and will be badly missed. He came into the sanctuary as a road accident but his brain never fully healed so he stayed with us. Rex was very affectonate and would take every oppertunity to sit in your lap. Missed by Maggie and all at the sanctuary

GB - 18th January 2011 GB had been ill for some time but finally lost her battle. GB had been with the sanctuary for 6 years and was an integral member of the 'old folks'. She loved getting groomed and would be first there if there was any food on offer. Missed by Maggie and all at the sanctuary, xxx

Oscar - December 2010 Oscar unexpectedly took a turn for the worse over Christmas. He came into the sanctuary as an old dog but seemed like he would last forever. Maggie reckons he must have been around 20 years old. Oscar loved to find a cosy corner and sleep the day away. Enjoy your health in Rainbow Bridge, Missed by Maggie and all at the sanctuary

Chelsea - 24th December 2011 We had to let Chelsea go after her health took a big turn for the worse. The vet diagnosed cancer and on Christmas Eve had to come and put her to sleep. We all miss her at the sanctuary, she was Mindy's back up at guarding duty and hogged the heater. Her special trick was to make sure to lie where ever would cause most trouble and then refuse to move! Sleep well Missed by Maggie and all at the sanctuary

Prince - Nov 2010 Prince left us after a bout of ill health and the sanctuary is not the same without him. Prince came into us when he was abandoned, he was moved into Forever Dogs due to his age and was Maggie's faithful shadow. Sleep well Prince, Missed by Maggie and all the volunteers at the sanctuary.

Obe' - June 2010 Obe' Our Beautiful Fun Loving Bull Terrier 2000-2010
Obe' came to us at 6wks old the first dog we ever had, from then on he became the centre of our world, we loved him so much. We never went anywhere without him because we couldn't bear to be apart from him. He brought us so much joy and love through the years, he was always so happy, always content, Obe' loved everyone and everyone loved Obe'.. Life is so lonely without him, but I know he will be waiting at Rainbow Bridge for us.
Until then he is just a thought away.

Mummy and Daddy Quinn

Trudy - 11 July 2010 Trudy was such a happy dog with a beautiful temperament. She loved nothing more than to be pampered, and her walk each night was the highlight of her day. She will be missed so much by her doting owners Claire and Colin and by all the kids ... Conor, Ava, Robyn, Eden, Harry and Kate. May she rest in peace at rainbow bridge. x

Spot - 22 June 2010 Spot was a lovely character and kept amazing us at how well he could get around despite being blind. Spot got on well with the other oldies and will be missed by everyone. xx

Lassie - 18th May 2010 We had to let Lassie go to a better place due to ill health on 18th May 2010. She was a trooper to the end. A joy to have known and loved for the last 11 years. She was the best friend anybody could ask for and she will be sadly missed by her "mum" (Kitty) and all the rest of the family - Liz, Andy, Sandy, Tom, Lisa, Aime, Adam and Caitlin. Lassie you will never be forgotten and thank you for your company.

Seamus - 7th April 2010 Due to ill health we had to let Seamus go today. Seamus came into us about 2 years ago after living rough for a number of years. He was a grumpy old man who wanted affection on his own terms! His favourite thing to do was wipe his eyes on the volunteers legs. Sleep well

Jean Brody - 23rd February 2010
Today was a sad day for all of us at Dogs Aid, Jeany Brody has gone on to Rainbow Bridge. We had noticed Jean getting more and more frail and knew this day was coming but it doesn't make it any easier. Jean came into us 5 or so years ago and we felt she was too old then to be rehomed so she stayed with us as a forever dog. She crept into everyone's heart with her huge personality crammed into such a small little body and made us laugh everyday. Jean used to mind the puppies and kept a very strict house which earned her her name, after Jean Brody the strict Scottish school marm. In the last year Jean's appetite wasn't great so we used to tempt her with snack pots, sausage rolls, sandwiches and chips. It got to the stage she'd start barking at us if we didn't give her her share quick enough!
Sleep well, know you're in our hearts forever

Pax - 25th January 2010
He was a full of life. His enthusiasm for life was second to none and he always had a twinke in his eye for mischief. He was born around Halloween in October 1995 so he was about 14 ½ years old. Pax taught Culley a few tricks in their time around each other i.e how to get away with digging holes and uprooting bedding plants.
Pax is much missed by Sirena, James, Norman, Geraldine, Adam and Culley.

Blondie - 25th May 2009
Blondie passed away peacefully today, she was getting slower but still, we didn't expect her to go so soon. Blondie was a puppy in Dogs Aid and was homed several times but returned each time for being nervous and it was decided for her to remain with Dogs Aid. Most people will remember Blondie greeting them at the gate of the sanctuary and searched their cars for anything she could steal!
We're all going to miss Blondie and hope she's reunited with Fraiser in Rainbow Bridge
Sleep well

Harriet Hog - 21st March 2009
Harriet unexpectedly died on Saturday. Harriet came into us with an injured leg and had to have the leg removed and couldnt be released. She became one of Maggie's girls and loved her Heinz egg custard.
Sleep well Harriet

Lady - January 2009
Lady lived with us for 11 years but sadly passed away a month ago after giving us so much love and laughter for the full 11 years. I have attached a photo of her. There is just my husband and myself, I work from home so am around all the time, we moved to Ratoath, Co Meath over 3 years ago, Lady loved a nice walk up in the hill of Tara (when her artrithus allowed), we have a great vets practice nearby who gave Lady some wonderful care. We also have 3 young nieces and nephews who visited and when we were going away Lady always stayed with my mother (spoiled there also).
Liz Rigby

Jaffa - 3rd January
Jaffa was found straying and never re-claimed. Initially he was very snappy and would have a go at everyone. Eventually he and Maggie came to a compromise and if she needed to pick him up he would turn his back to her and let Maggie pick him up so he was facing out! When a grooming course needed volunteer dogs for their students to practice on Maggie sent Jaffa so they could practice handling a grumpy customer. However he mellowed out over the years and enjoyed getting groomed.
He will be missed by all at Dogs Aid.

Tilly - 4th December 2008
Tilly came into us through the Blue Cross. She was found wandering, she was about 13 years old and just wanted a quiet life now. Tilly spent most of her day sleeping in different dogs beds, and everybody shared with her! She claimed the biggest kennel because she could keep an eye on what's going on and keep warm and cosy!

Hamish - 25th November 2008
Hamish came to us as an 8 year old dog and was re-homed. He was returned to us after a couple of years and was moved into the Forever Dogs section due to his age. Hamish is now quite blind and enjoys grumbling at the other OAPs in the house. He lost his sight in the last few months and grew increasingly frail. Unfortunately he collapsed and passed away on Tuesday. Sweet dreams Hamish.
From Maggie and all at Dogs Aid

Aunt Sally - 29th July 2008, Aged 15
Maggie inherited Aunt Sally 2 years ago and she has been an integral part of Dogs Aid ever since. She was a cranky old girl who would do everything her own way and would bite anyone who tried to make her do different. Aunt Sally developed a tumour over the last number of months and went down hill in the last 2 weeks. She'll rule Rainbow Bridge with an iron paw!
Badly missed by Maggie and all at Dogs Aid

Judy - 17th July 2008, Aged 13
Judy lost her battle with illness today and travelled peacefully over to Rainbow Bridge. Everyone at Dogs Aid will miss Judy and her independant ways. Judy was always there first for her food and would kick any dog out of a bed so she could get in. A volunteer found her in the pound where her chances of getting out were slim. She spent most of her days sleeping in the sun or by the radiator. Hopefully Judy has found a nice sunny spot in Rainbow Bridge.

Honey - 14th February 2008, Aged 2
Honey is badly missed by her owner Holly Kenny, Holly hopes Honey is running around at full speed at Rainbow Bridge

Fraiser - May 2008, Aged 9
Fraiser lived with Blondie at the entrance to the Sanctuary and pretended to be our guard dog! He was recently diagnosed with bone cancer and unfortunatly took a bad turn for the worse suddenly. He's now fit and healthy at Rainbow Bridge and is badly missed by Blondie and all the volunteers at Dogs Aid

Roxy - May 2008, Aged 14
Roxy wasn't a Dogs Aid dog but was rescued from a shopping trolley. She lived life her own way and was stubburn to the last. She's badly missed by Aine, Nuala, Cian and Maureen and all her friends in Loughshinny. Roxy has joined Roisin at Rainbow Bridge and is finally home again.
Sleep well. xxx

May you always have the most comfortable sofa at Rainbow Bridge
From all at Dogs Aid

Ruby - 2007
Ruby was always a fiesty girl and will be missed by her best pal in Dogs Aid, George
Patch - February 2007
We got Patch from Dogs Aid in October 1994. Unfortunatly she had to be put down because she had cancer, we were devestated as she was an extremely important member of our family but we were glad to be with her at the end. She is sadly missed but we have wonderful memories of her 13 years with us.
Many thanks,
The Molloy family

Lucy - February 2005
Lucy was left into a boarding kennels and never collected

Sparkey - September 2004
Sparkeys kidneys were not the best and even though we had a few scares in the past, he always came around, but not this time, I guess he has ben through a lot for a little chap. He broke his back in a road traffic accident and lost the use of his back legs, and was also incontinent. We got him a cart from America so he could get around, and with the excellent care Maggie gave him he lived another six years. We will miss you little man, flying around the place like you hadnt a care in the world, a little dog with a huge heart

Millie - February 2004

Honey - December 2003
Honey was found straying on the M50 and no-one claimed her, she was only a forever dog for a short time
June 2003
My dog was so beautiful, but she wouldnt hurt a fly, and she loved to go after fluffy toys and golf balls. I miss her so much. I never forget the day I had to put her to sleep, it broke my heart, but she lived to 13 so I'm thankful for all the memories.
Mary Smith
Henry - November 2003
Henry was an elderly Cairn Terrier cross, who was found tied to a tree in a secluded wood. No-one came to claim him so he joined the Forever Dogs in the house. He was very gentle and friendly but obviously too old for his previous owner
Lovechild - July 2003
'Anndale Arhys at Tagnrye' Cd Ex
Lovechild went to sleep peacefully in my arms on sunday after he lost his fight to a brain tumour. He earned his name Lovechild as a result of his escapades both inside and outside of the ring - believe me it suited him well. The void he has left is unbearably painful and everywhere is so quiet. I have to smile though at the thought of him at Rainbow Bridge - when he arrives they wont know what him them - so Be Afraid, Be Very Afraid, Lovechild is on his way!!
Sleep well, we miss you,
Lots of love, Mum, Prudence and Logan
Tiny - November 2002
This is Tiny our lovely little yorkie. Much loved and missed. We had her for 15 wonderful months and our hearts broke when we had to end her suffering. Always in our thoughts, forever in our hearts, love you Ti-Ti
